Ok. I grabbed my stuff. Since I've been getting alot of questions, here's the details.

Boogie Nights - First Draft - July 1994 (186 pages) very, very different from the finished film.

Boogie Nights - Revised Draft - May 13, 1996 - (152 pages) closer to the film, but still quite a bit of deleted scenes and dialogue.

Sydney - Blue Revised - February 16, 1995 (97 pages). pretty much the shooting script.

Rule of the Bone - Revised First Draft - June 19, 1996 (130 pages) - it's an adaption, but it definitely feels like a PTA script.

Knuckle Sandwich - First Draft - September/October, 1993! (140 pages). Set in L.A. in 1967. Characters are Barry Wurlitzer and Lena Leonard. Some dialogue made it into Magnolia and there's a few PDL touches, but this is a wholly original story/script. It feels like PTA doing Tarantino/True Romance. very cool...

thanks

So... I have a question for you depooter.  After reading the "finale" stuff on http://www.cigarettesandredvines.com/film.php?id=BC1 could you tell me if the 186 page version of the script you have ends with the CU of Dirk right after Jessie gives birth?  Was that the intended ending of the whole movie?

Also if anyone would be kind enough to tell me why there seem to be 2 versions of cigarettesandredvines, one of which has a ton more stuff than the other, that'd be cool.  Thanks.

it is because we (jeff/i) got swamped with other things right in the middle of a re-design and everything got a bit sideways. we are working on putting everything back in its place shortly. apologies.

I had a friend who sent me a copy of Knuckle Sandwich.  It seems like this is the only place you could really talk about it.  I thought it was awful.  It's full of cliches that you'd find in this type of crime/romance/thriller movie.  Tons of slow-mo which just felt kinda cheesy.  A lot of the dialogue is the kind of stuff that you write when you're doing a first draft of a script (and it does say first draft).  Y'know, just pretty bland stuff and repetitive.  It's kinda amazing actually to think that the person who wrote this wrote... well... anything else he wrote.  I remember PTA saying that he thinks rewrites are bullshit and he likes to send his scripts out "zits and all" or something, but he must really, really, rewrite and rewrite tons of shit if this is what some of his first drafts are like.  It's weird that he wrote Cigarettes and Coffee the same year he wrote this, and I think he said he wrote a feature-length script of Boogie Nights when he was 20?  Sorry if I'm being too harsh, but there's a lot to expect from this guy...  I'd like to hear what anyone else who has read it thought.  I think I'm being too cynical about it.  Sorry.
