Title: Scarlett Johansson
Post by: ono on January 13, 2004, 11:16:22 PM
Scarlett Johansson (http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0424060/).  Pretty.  Super talented.  Excellent in Ghost World, Lost in Translation, and Girl With a Pearl Earring, among others.  I <3 her.

Oh yeah, and she's on Leno like right now.  Discuss, or some junk.

God Bless You, Ono.  She is the most beautiful, talented actress working today.

EDIT - That Leno interview warmed my blood...........she's a funny girl.....

the same thing leelee sobieski has been doing in all those crappy teen films that she thinks will get ppl her age to like her more after realising none of her friends saw A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries. or do u mean the hair? i don't like the big top thing.

...word on the street is that this will be her breakout  role.....nothing she has been in yet is as challenging as what she will be trying to do......
.which is making...at what appears to be a tradtional stupid looking mtv film.....actually credible.....and that can be challenginng and rewarding as well as working w/ coppola...coens..zwigoff....etc......

either way i wish she wouldn't move so fast. ::obsessed::

I think she's overrated. Ghost World seemed to cater on her ability to be just plain. No accomplishment. Lost in Translation was a move to push her to something better by making her physical appearance one of the main things driving the role but the lack of emotional interest in the role (boredom of life is boring in subject these days) and her inability to really convey feeling in the face like other actresses (Emma Thompson, Samantha Morton) really makes her just a welcome face for outcasted youth.

whatever.  i think he had a good point about johansson.  i'm still mystified by her performance in ghost world.  i can't tell if it's brilliant or just a matter of perfect direction and script, and fitting the role.

She's definitely my favorite young actress working today, and I think I'd place her high (maybe top 5) of all actresses working today. And obviously I'll have to disagree with you, CSG. Her restrained performance in Ghost World is part of what makes it so accessible. Had anyone else played the part it would not have been as successful. Her performance in Lost in Translation is equally good, and so is the one in The Man Who Wasn't There, now that i think about it. I have yet to see Girl with a Pearl Earring, but either way I think there's enough evidense to at least say she's on her way to becoming a very talented actress.

Scarlett Johansson Starring in The Black Dahlia
Source: Variety

Scarlett Johansson (The Perfect Score) will star in The Black Dahlia, opposite Josh Hartnett and Mark Wahlberg for director Brian De Palma.

In the fictional account of the notorious 1947 murder, Johansson plays Kay, a doppelganger for the title character, and the object of affection for two police officers (Hartnett and Wahlberg) investigating the brutal murder of Hollywood starlet Elizabeth Short.

"Dahlia" is in process of securing a domestic distribution deal, says Variety. Adapted for the screen by Josh Friedman from James Ellroy's bestselling novel, the film will start shooting May 24 in L.A.

Johansson will star in "Dahlia" after she finishes work on the Weitz brothers' film Synergy, which she starts shooting in March.

I bet DePalma will use her well. DePalma is still making good pictures, if you just minus the storyline on some of them. He has a great way of 'painting' with film. Snake Eyes was the best example of this, IMO. I'm perfectly fine with the looks of this film.

Are you implying her career will turn to shits soon? I bet it won't, for some reason. I mean, hell, she's already pretty well-known now with LIT and all, and she's well-respected for her ability. I just hope she won't always pick movie like The Perfect Score, because goddamn she's so much better than that movie. I guess right now she's at that point in her career where it can still fall, but if she keeps doing good movies she'll be fine. Shes only 19 and she's already been in more movie's i liked than....well...any other actress. Ghost World, MWWT, Lost in Translation, GWAPE, etc. I seriously can't think of any other actress in more than two or three that I really liked. Much less she's really good in all the movies I've seen her in.

Over the weekend I bought a magazine with her on the cover: Hollywood Life...and it has a pretty cool interview with her, as well as many nice photos.  She has one of the best quotes I've ever seen made by an actor:

'Q: I've gotten a lot of mirth out of Oscar acceptance speeches, especialy in the past few years. Are you with me on this?
Scarlett: They can be so goofy, like the ones where they say, "I'd like to thank our Lors Jesus up above!" I'm like. "For the love of God, keep your mouth shut. That's why the world is so fucked up, because God is focusing solely on your career." And how about being "blessed"? Like you're an angel from on high?'

That's actually what I was thinking, too.  I remember some company held off showing Phone Booth for a year or so to wait for Calin Farrel to release some titles that would make him a household name first. Now, I don't know if that's the case here, but I do find it odd that Perfect Score was released only months following her success in LIT and GWAPE, and weeks from all the awards she won. I really hope Perfect Score doesn't fuck up her career, though she was also in Eight Legged Freaks and still went in some good movies.

Zooey Deschanel was in "The New Guy" and "Big Trouble" after "Almost Famous" and "The Good Girl" and her career hasn't suffered from it.

And "Eight Legged Freaks" wasn't that bad. It's was kinda like a mixture of "Gremlins" and "Tremors" with spiders.

Scarlett Johansson is on the cover of Movieline's Hollywood Life Magazine (February 2004).  She looks as beautiful as ever.  I will provide scans tomorrow of the pictures and article tomorrow, weather permitting (it may snow here, so I may not be able to get to the scanner -- we'll see).

Understood P. I will leave my personal interests off the boards.

Yes, she is one gorgeous birdy....and she's only 19!!! My friend said to me, "You know who she looks like?" And at the same time we both said, "Angelina Jolie meets Wynona Ryder." He also added Mandy Moore. Anyone else agree? Either way, she's hot to trot. I heard she's somewhat of a bitch, but from what I've seen/heard of her, she just seems rather intelligent, mature and self-confident. She's purdy.

Who said she's a bitch? She seems like a shy, but opinionated, girl in all the interviews I've read. She also seems pretty passionate about the acting thing, and music too, I guess. But this is just speculation.

When I first saw Ghost World, she looked extremely familiar, but I couldn't think of what I'd seen her in. Then I remembered long after--The Man Who Wasn't There. Great movie and a great performance by a great looking young actress who is really really great.

Please try to keep such comments out of this thread. Scarlett Johannson isn't great because of her boobs, however nice they may be, or even by her looks in general. She's great because of her ability to act, and the fact she's only 19, which means she can only become better over time. She does also happen to be one of the most beautiful actresses working today, in my opinion. We should try to make this thread as though one day Scarlett may read it, and I think she'd be ashamed that we seem to only pay attention to her looks.

Quote from: Pforsooth, mine eyes doth roam of their own accord

I know ... seven off the top of my head; that's about the same as how many guys I know.  One works at the local arthouse and is going to Prague this summer and will be taking a Czech film class.  One loves Italian film, raved to me about Cinema Paradiso.  One is head of our campus's film committee.  There are so many girls I know that do, here it's almost a 50/50 balance, though guys are usually more passionate about it, so you're right there.  I doubt many of them would post on message boards about it and such, but you never know.  Maybe I'm just lucky to know all these girls, though some of them I haven't spoken to in a while, and I'm an idiot for that.  :-D

So much for not getting off on tangents.

girls abandon their ambitions, because they are taught that they have to take care of the family, or they have to keep their mouth shut and look cute. They are said, often literally, that nobody, especially men, like opinionated girls. Having opinion is sometimes equal to be stuborn, disobedient, bad...

I love opinionated girls myself.  Every girl I've been involved with has been that way.  Well, except for one, who was more quiet.  Unopinionated girls are boring, really.  Shame, though, but I guess I'm lucky going to such a liberal, outspoken university (if you could call that luck - hehe).

Sorry Chest,

Johansson: Men My Age Are Immature

BAFTA winner Scarlett Johansson has discovered another downside of feeling older than her 19 years - men her own age are too immature to date. The self-confessed "woman trapped in a young body" - who has wowed Hollywood with her performance in Oscar-nominated Lost In Translation as a young wife falling in love with an older man - is frustrated with meeting men her own age, because she always has to make the first move. She says, "They never really come good until their thirties. In the two relationships I have been in so far, I'm always the one to initiate a kiss. I don't mean that I don't get kissed back but most of the time a large chunk of it is me going in for the kiss. It's weird." And Johansson admits she always reaches a stage in a relationship when she needs to be alone again, no matter how much she's enjoying the romance. She adds, "Being in a relationship is great because you compromise and make decisions together. But after doing that for so long I needed to be alone. I like to make my own choices."

I don't mean that I don't get kissed back but most of the time a large chunk of it is me going in for the kiss. It's weird." And Johansson admits she always reaches a stage in a relationship when she needs to be alone again, no matter how much she's enjoying the romance. Interview with Scarlett Johannson

We caught up with the latest bright young thing in cinema - Scarlett Johannson - to chat about her year, growing fame and acting opposite Bill Murray in the new box-office hit Lost In Translation.

Scarlett, it's shaping up to be quite a year for you, what with Lost in Translation and all the acclaim it's already received on both sides of the Atlantic and what we are referring to as your Dutch Jewellery Movie (Girl With A Pearl Earring). What was it about this film in particular that struck a chord with you?

Scarlett Johansson (SJ): Well, Sofia Coppola (the director. Ed.) and I met in a restaurant - I heard she had a hankering for a meeting and I couldn't say no.

So we met in a restaurant in New York and she basically explained to me that she had this idea that was shaping up with some clarity and that it was definitely going to be with Bill Murray and if it wasn't Bill Murray then she wasn't going to do it.

She said it would also take place in Tokyo and these seemed like two very appealing things, Tokyo and Bill Murray, so I said send me the script when you've finished it and sure enough, not that much later a little mini-script came and I knew right after I finished reading it that it was a project I wanted to be a part of - it was such a beautiful, beautiful script.

I had nothing to say about it really, everything was there. It was 75 pages, it was short, and a lot of it was visual, I mean the dialogue between Bill and I is pretty much he'll have one line and I'll have one line, like a ping-pong and it just read so well, like a really great novel and when I finished it I was happy and I was sad and I just knew, I knew I could play the part.

Was it a case of art imitating life? What did you like most and least about Tokyo?

SJ: Well I guess I had Bob Harris' (character Murray plays) experience. I was really tired the whole time I was there and we were shooting a week of days, then a week of nights, then a week of days and I felt very discombobulated while I was there.

I was also staying at the Park Hyatt hotel while we were filming there, so it was a very surreal reality, going downstairs in my pyjamas for rehearsal and so on.

It felt like fun for me and the days that I had off, which was just one day a week unfortunately, I just tried to do what everybody else was doing - I'd go shopping and eat out and try to walk around but I couldn't even do anything that touristy because I was so involved in what we were doing.

Were you intimidated by the language barrier at all?

SJ: Yeah, for whatever reason, nobody really spoke English very well in the hotel. There was a Swedish hotel manager, I guess he spoke pretty well. Oh and there were a couple of people there that knew how to say "No"...

The karaoke scene is the most amusing scene in the film. I was wondering how spontaneous the choice of music was and whether it was improvised or was it heavily scripted?

SJ: Well for a start, Sofia wanted those particular songs and I think Ross got the copyright two days before so I had to learn all the words to Brass In Pocket, even though the translation on the screen is really bizarre, some of it's just not at all the real words, it's like funny, broken translation. But other than the songs it was pretty much improvised.

Do you have a favourite scene in the film?

SJ: I like the whole sequence with Bill and me in his bedroom. It starts off with us watching TV trivia and then pans over to the window and ends up with us lying on the bed and falling asleep.

It's so telling, it's really the one time when our characters are really honest, you know there are the jokes about his mid-life crisis, 'Have you bought your Porsche yet?' and so on, and I have that self-help tape but it's the one moment where we're trying to figure out exactly what it is that's missing and not just that but Bill really is so evasive.

With my character I'll say things like 'I really like you' and 'I'll miss you' and he's just like 'Okay' and it's sort of the one moment where he really makes an effort to connect and I think it's really touching.

Have you ever been in any commercials, before you became a well-known movie star?

SJ: No, I'm terrible at selling things - I can only sell myself. I have a really eerie natural delivery where it sounds almost forceful or really fake and I haven't really found a happy medium, so no.

I used to audition when I was younger, I'd go on cattle calls but they didn't know if they wanted me or a young Chinese boy and it was very overwhelming.

And I used to get really frustrated because they would always ask if I had a sore throat so my Mum just said 'Well, then we won't go out on these commercials anymore because you don't like them' so I just stopped.

You're on the verge of becoming a sex symbol - how do you feel about that? Do you get people chatting you up a lot more?

SJ: A sex symbol? My God. Yeah, I get sexy young man and women coming up to me...

You should stress that you're joking, or it'll be in the papers...

SJ: Yeah, I guess that it's appropriate timing - I'll be 19 in a couple of weeks. I'm legal now! So it seems quite appropriate, becoming a young woman and I'm comfortable with my own sexuality and all that sort of thing. So it's nice, you know, it means I can borrow lots of designer dresses and that sort of thing. There are lots of perks and so on.

Are you old enough to go to a bar in the States?

SJ: Well, no but you have to kind of go in the back door...

Fashion World Notices Scarlett Johansson

NEW YORK - Scarlett Johansson, who gained critical notice for her films "Lost in Translation" and "Girl With a Pearl Earring," is now being noticed by the fashion world.

The 19-year-old actress will be the face of a new Calvin Klein fragrance that will hit the market in the fall. Shooting on the print and television ads will begin next month. (She also was featured in Cynthia Rowley's spring fashion show in September.)

"Scarlett is a talented young force that exudes a sophistication and confidence that is not readily seen today and, she balances it with a relaxed attitude and a sense of humor," Kim Vernon, senior vice president of global communications and advertising for Calvin Klein Inc., said in a statement Tuesday.

Commented Johansson: "Just when I thought things couldn't get better, something like this happens. Being associated with Calvin Klein is a real thrill."

It's the first starring role in a major ad campaign for Johansson, the company said. She joins a roster of performers who have appeared in Calvin Klein ads, including Brooke Shields, Mark Wahlberg, Moby, Macy Gray and Ashton Kutcher.

That should be the least of her concerns, really.  She has real talent, but from this, she seems to have become the next "it" girl.  She has a good head on her shoulders from what I can see of her interviews, and she's said as much as she doesn't want to sell out.  And while making a paycheck is nice, here's hoping she can just keep choosing good projects.  Even Julianne Moore has done -- what was it? -- Revlon commercials, right?

Johansson and Del Toro an Item?
Unlikely couple Scarlett Johansson and Benicio Del Toro were so smitten with each other at a pre-Oscars party, they didn't care about being spotted "with their arms all over each other". Latin star Del Toro - who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award at Sunday's ceremony - spent Saturday night canoodling with the 19-year-old actress before the pair retired to the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles at 3.30am. Guests at the legendary hotel on Sunset Strip were stunned when the playful pair walked in, because they were making no attempts to cover up their intimate behavior. A spy says, "They didn't care who saw them. They walked through the hotel lobby where there were quite a few people hanging about and didn't seem at all embarrassed to be spotted with their arms all over each other. It was quite extraordinary. She looks so young and he could easily pass for her dad. They then got into a lift together."

Benny is good looking!

How to make your own Benicio Del Toro:

1) 1 spoon of Brad Pitt
2) 2 spoons of Leonardo DiCaprio
3) Add a little spice - I suggest some Enrique Iglesias or Antonio Banderas. (I threw in some Keanu Reeves by accident - DON'T DO THAT!)
4) Make sure that it doesn't sleep for  2-3 days. (VERY IMPORTANT)

IMPORTANT: Make sure to play Gipsy Kings while baking your very own Benicio Del Toro.

Scarlett Johansson in Napoleon and Betsy
Source: Variety

Lost in Translation star Scarlett Johansson will star in Lions Gate's Napoleon and Betsy, a pitch for a drama about the friendship between Napoleon Bonaparte and a young British girl.

Johansson pitched the tale with Rebecca B. Kennedy, the scribe who is scripting the tale. They're putting together a short list for Napoleon, says Variety. The film is on track to begin shooting in the fall.

The project tells the story of the emperor's final years, as seen through the girl's eyes. Initially defiant and planning to escape, Bonaparte tries to enlist her in his fantasy to regrasp power, but eventually becomes resigned to his fate.

The Napolean movie sounds pretty cool, actually.

I read in MovieMaker magazine that Scarlett wants to direct and produce one day. Some studio asshole even said something to the effect of, 'She'll make a fine director.' I'm not sure she'd be a great director, but I'd like to see her effort. She seems to have a good creative mind for cinema and seems to know what will make a good film, just looking at her decisions in the past year. Any comments?

I've been on the Naomi Watts bandwagon since I first saw Mulholland Drive a while back (mind you, this was way way back when I just a little movie-fanatic-embryo, before even The Ring came out).

But I'm still holding out for Scarlett. Maybe I've lied before when I've said one of her up-and-coming releases looked all right, but I'm genuinely looking forward to Synergy. That at least looks good.

It's not really a great channel. They show fashion and gardening and regular woman-crap. They also show chick-flicks. My mom told me it was on (I had been looking to see it again for obvious reasons), so I watched it.

Johansson, Baldwin & Tambor Voicing SpongeBob
Source: Variety

Nickelodeon Movies has signed up Scarlett Johansson, Alec Baldwin and Jeffrey Tambor for voice work in Paramount's animated The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, opening on November 19.

Directed by Stephen Hillenburg, creator of the series, the story centers on the irrepressible SpongeBob's efforts to retrieve King Neptune's stolen crown. The film was written by Hillenburg, Derek Drymon, Tim Hill, Kent Osborne, Aaron Springer and Paul Tibbitt.

Nickelodeon also announced it has lined up an estimated $150 million in promo support from Mitsubishi, Burger King, the Cayman Islands, Holiday Inn and candy company Perfetti Can Melle USA. Kellogg began running spots in January; tie-ins include SpongeBob-themed Pop Tarts and breakfast cereal along with SpongeBob-imprinted Eggo waffles.

Take a look at that picture.  Now there, she just looks like any other woman, any girl you'd see from day-to-day.  Just really boggles the mind how much a good make-up artist and stylist can do.  I mean, sure, she looks good even in that picture, and it's no slight against her at all.  But glamour and success and all that stuff becomes her, too.  And she sure seems to be having fun with it.

Oh, and apparently, that picture is from Ghost World, though I don't quite remember the scene.  It's under the category "Statement" if that helps.

Just saw Scarlett on a rerun of Leno.  Jay's ambiguously gay correspondent did a special for the Oscars or Globes or something, and saw her there (the one where she wore that green dress), and he said something like "I just met Oprah!" and she says "I went on a vacation with Oprah!" and he's like "you BITCH!" and they laughed.  And I don't know why I just told you that.  Was funny or something.

JOHANSSON ATTRIBUTES SUCCESS TO HUSKY VOICE

Hollywood starlet SCARLETT JOHANSSON is convinced her rise to superstardom is because of her trademark husky voice.

The 19-year-old LOST IN TRANSLATION OSCAR nominee claims her rasping tones always shocked movie bosses at auditions.

Scarlett says, "I've always had this voice since I was a young kid.

"When I'd read my lines at those childhood auditions, everyone would always say, 'Do you have a sore throat?' and I'd go, 'No, I always sound like this.'"

Johansson's "Unsanitary" Del Toro Encounter
Movie teen Scarlett Johansson has confessed she enjoyed a raunchy encounter with 37-year-old actor Benicio Del Toro in a hotel elevator, labeling the spontaneous experience "unsanitary". The Lost In Translation beauty was spotted canoodling with the Oscar winner at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles before the Academy Awards in February, and stunned guests claimed she later invited him up to her room. But the actress has sensationally revealed the location for their sexy antics was actually the elevator. She says, "We were making out or having sex or something, which I think is very unsanitary." Johansson - who admits she only entertains the prospect of dating men in "their thirties" - was reportedly seen cavorting with 33-year-old film hunk Jared Leto in Los Angeles last month.

That reminds me of an old friend of mine who is known for making some stories up and really try and make us believe they're true. When I was about 15 we went on a school trip to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. While there, he swears that on an elevator trip of about three floors, he fucked two Spanish women. We tried to make him believe that either:

a) he comes way too quickly

or b) he's Flash, so he comes even quicker than we think

but now I've realized that there's another possibilitym which is
c) Scarlett Johansson was on that elevator

However, until this day (and we're all about 20, 21...) he wants us to believe that story...

Johansson Joins Woody Allen Cast
Source: Hollywood Reporter Tuesday, June 29, 2004

The Hollywood Reporter posted the following:

"Scarlett Johansson is set to join the cast of Woody Allen's 36th movie, replacing Kate Winslet, who dropped out Friday. Winslet reportedly wanted to spend more time with her family. Johansson joins cast members Emily Mortimer and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers on the feature, which is due to begin production shortly at London's Ealing Studios."

HaHaHa. All of you are gonna have to watch Michael Bay film now:

Johansson off to 'Island' for Bay
Source: Hollywood Reporter

Scarlett Johansson is booking passage for "The Island," the next project on her slate that she will film.

The actress is in final negotiations to team with Ewan McGregor on the Michael Bay-directed feature for DreamWorks. A Oct. 25 start is being planned on the Caspian Tredwell-Owen script.

"Island" centers on a "harvested being" who suddenly becomes self-aware and tries to escape the utopian facility where he and others are being kept. Johansson will play a woman who is the only one that McGregor's character can trust. She also is pregnant with her "sponsor's" child.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci also turned in a draft for producers Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Ian Bryce.

DreamWorks production executive Marc Haimes is overseeing for production topper Adam Goodman. The studio purchased the project in a heated bidding war in February for a price tag north of $1 million.

Johansson is on a streak following her awards-season run for her notable roles in Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation" and Peter Webber's "Girl With a Pearl Earring." She has since finished working on "A Good Woman" opposite Helen Hunt and Tom Wilkinson, "Synergy" opposite Dennis Quaid and Woody Allen's summer project.

She also has signed on to star opposite Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible 3" to start shooting in June. Before that, she'll lens Brian De Palma's "The Black Dahlia."

Johansson Fends Off Reporter's Advance

"Lost in Translation" star Scarlett Johansson came to the Venice Film Festival to promote her latest picture, but found herself fending off romantic advances.

During a packed press conference for her film "A Love Song for Bobby Long," the 19-year-old was ambushed by an unusual question by a young journalist from Chile.

"This is kind of a confession: I can't sleep at night thinking about you. Sorry, I have to tell you. I'm a journalist but I'm an actor, too," the Casanova said Thursday. "Please, could you choose one of your favorites (movies) to make with me. Come on Scarlett, please."

"Oh God. ... Uhm. 'Single White Female,' maybe," Johansson quipped, referring to the 1992 film about a woman whose roommate becomes dangerously obsessed with her.

"I've never seen it," the reporter said. "What is it about? It is a love one?"

"Of sorts," Johansson replied.

This same journalist has made unusual comments at other press conferences, suggesting Steven Spielberg make a sequel to "Saving Private Ryan" called "Saving Private Bush" but "at the end of the film no one saves him." And he advised Denzel Washington to run for president. Neither star responded to his remarks. (AP)

Lions Gate Nabs 'Bobby' Rights

Lions Gate Films has acquired North American theatrical and pay TV distribution rights to "A Love Song for Bobby Long," starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson.

The Shainee Gabel-directed film, which had its world premiere this month at the Venice International Film Festival, was produced by El Camino Pictures, which financed the project along with Columbia TriStar. According to sources, the financing arrangement gave Columbia the option of releasing the film through one of its distribution labels.

But Lions Gate stepped up and offered a domestic deal with a release date before year's end. Because the filmmakers and Travolta were eager to release the film before year's end to capitalize on the momentum sparked by its recent showing in Venice, they opted to go with Lions Gate. Columbia retains rights to release the film on DVD and home video.

"Shainee Gabel has directed John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson to the best performances of their careers," said Tom Ortenberg, president of Lions Gate Films Releasing, which released Johansson's "Girl With a Pearl Earring" last year. "We are proud to be associated with this talented new filmmaking voice and to be bringing her feature film debut to audiences across America this holiday season."

Set in New Orleans, "Bobby Long" centers on a jaded teenage loner (Johansson) who returns to the city of her childhood upon hearing of her mother's death. Expecting to find her mother's house abandoned, the teen is instead shocked to discover that it is inhabited by two men (Travolta and Gabriel Macht) whose lives took a wrong turn years before. Deborah Kara Unger and Dane Rhodes round out the cast.

So after the late Conan rerun went off, Access Hollywood or some junk magazine came on, and I caught a glimpse of Scarlett.  She's in a flick with Travolta, Love Song for Bobby Long or something.  Anyway, some pic where she walked the red carpet, she looked as great as ever, and she looked just like Naomi Watts (no big coincidence there).

Why does this matter?  It doesn't.  But it's 4 AM and I've got a stageplay due tomorrow that I didn't realize was due tomorrow so that kinda sucks and I'm still looking for ways to procrastinate and still get it done in the next 45 minutes.  If I had a way to post the picture, I would, but I don't, so I won't, and I'll just have wasted 30 seconds of your life, depending on how fast a reader you are.  Have a :) night/morning/whatever wherever the hell you are.

Johansson Denies Fling with Del Toro
Stunning actress Scarlett Johansson has finally spoken out about her alleged fling with Benicio Del Toro - it never happened. The pair were reported to have enjoyed a steamy tryst in an elevator at Los Angeles' Chateau Marmont hotel after this year's Academy Awards, after the Lost In Translation beauty refused to deny the rumors. But she insists it was all a big mistake: "I went home alone that night to my mom's house, but nobody cares about that. It was so embarrassing. I felt horrible about the way that portrayed Benicio Del Toro."

Scarlett Johansson on MI3 and more!
The actress talks MI3, Woody Allen and Black Dahlia.
Source: IGN.FilmForce

This summer indie darling Scarlett Johansson will make the transition to big budget action movies in the grandest fashion. After working on smaller films with auteur directors like Sofia Coppolla and the Coen Brothers, the young actress, who just turned 20, breaks out in a big way on Michael Bay's The Island. FilmForce spoke with Johansson this afternoon about turning down MI3 for Woody and working with Brian De Palma on Black Dahlia.

To follow The Island, Johansson nearly chose an equally large vehicle as the follow-up. Ultimately however, the actress turned down a chance to play opposite Tom Cruise in MI3. "I was attached to it. I'm working this summer with Woody and we just had scheduling conflict. When you have a big production like that, they can't move stuff around that easily. I wanted to work with Woody so, unfortunately, that was a casualty, I guess."

There aren't many comparisons one can draw between Michael Bay and Woody Allen. Scarlett laughed at the idea of contrasting the two: "I don't know that there is a comparison you can make between Michael and Woody. Let's put it this way, when I told Woody that I was doing a Michael Bay movie, he was like, 'Who?' (Laughs) You know, he's so totally separated. He's such a snob when it comes to that kind of thing. I told him, you've gotta see The Island when it comes out. It's gonna be great. It's a really great science fiction movie and he goes, 'Oh, I like Science Fiction.' (Laughs) So, we'll see if we can get him to the premiere."

Scarlett's first experience with the famous director went so well, he's already cast her in his following project. "I was thrilled. I loved working with Woody. He's a dream. I think I'd be happy working with him the rest of my career. We had a fun time working together and now we're working together again. [The next film] is a comedy, yes."

The actress also recently worked with Brian De Palma on the 1940's film noir, The Black Dahlia. Johansson was asked to compare De Palma to Bay as well: "Michael is so incredibly energetic. He never leaves the set. I was convinced he never went the bathroom for five months… Brian is a 65 year-old man. He's been doing it for a long time. He ends his workday at 5:30. We start at eight, we end at 5:30. It's very civil. (Laughs) He's very quiet. It's a totally different experience because we're doing a film noir drama precisely to the film noir standards, so it's a different kind of focus that he has. Michael is busy directing 300 extras on a huge, huge action movie, where as The Black Dahlia is so much lying and a whole twisted story. Brian is only focusing on the actors. There's not much, other than a couple of really gory and violent [scenes]… Which Brian does very well. (Laughs) And sex and all of that fantastic stuff that he can do so well. It's a character-driven film completely… It's a totally different experience…"

Scarlett Driven to Distraction

Disneyland was anything but the happiest place on Earth for     Scarlett Johansson.

The Lost in Translation star was on the giving end of a minor car accident Friday near the amusement park--an accident caused, her publicist says, as the actress tried to swerve to escape a crew of shutterbugs.

"The fender-bender was induced by the paparazzi, who chased her for 45 minutes," Johansson publicist Marcel Pariseau said in a statement Monday.

Anaheim Police Department spokesman Rick Martinez says the bang-up occurred around 1:50 p.m. No one hurt, and no one was cited for the accident.

"The two parties exchanged insurance information on their own, and no police report was filed to my knowledge," Martinez said Monday.

Martinez says that by the time officers arrived on the scene about an hour later, Johansson, who most recently starred in this summer's box-office dud The Island, had already left in a brand new Mercedes to replace her damaged one. (A Mercedes-Benz representative reportedly delivered an emergency loaner to the actress.)

Per eyewitnesses reports, Johansson, 20, and some friends were cruising near the Mouse House, when the paparazzi-powered vehicle forced her to veer sharply, clipping a car with a woman and her two young daughters.

Johansson is the latest A-list motorist victimized by aggressive paparazzi maneuvers.

Back in May,     Lindsay Lohan was involved in a more serious accident, when photographer Galo Ramirez reportedly rammed her Mercedes-Benz with his van while chasing the actress.

Lohan suffered cuts and bruises from the smash-up and was left "shaken up and extremely upset," by the incident, which her publicist described as intentional.

A criminal probe was launched in Los Angeles and authorities are still weighing whether to charge Ramierez for assault with a deadly weapon.

In April,     Reese Witherspoon claimed she was chased by several paparazzi and prevented from entering the gated community where she lives. Earlier this month Los Angeles prosecutors said that while the photographers in question most likely used aggressive tactics and terrorized Witherspoon, there was insufficent evidence to charge them with false imprisonment.

Johansson booked for 'Nanny' job
Source: Hollywood Reporter

Scarlett Johansson is in negotiations to star in "The Nanny Diaries," an adaptation of the best-selling novel that Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini are in talks to direct from their script. Richard Gladstein is producing for the Weinstein Co.

Written by former nannies Nicola Kraus and Emma McLaughlin, the book told the story of a college student, the aptly named Nan, who goes to work for a Park Avenue family that turns out to be the family from hell. Johansson will play Nan, who juggles the household's marital woes, her classes, a romance and a spoiled kid.

The Weinsteins are eyeing a February start date in Toronto and New York.

Johansson to play Napoleon's lover in coming film

"Lost in Translation" star Scarlett Johansson has reportedly signed to play the love interest in a film on the last days of French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.

According to Variety, Johansson, 21, will play a young British woman who falls in love with Napoleon as he lives out his final days in exile on the island of Sainte Helene.

"Napoleon and Betsy" is written and will be filmed by independent producer Benjamin Ross.

One of Hollywood's newest discoveries, Johansson first made a mark as a teenager in Robert Redford's "The Horse Whisperer" (1988), and then swept to stardom two years ago in Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation".

This year she has appeared in several productions, including "The Island" and Woody Allen's "Matchpoint".

She also recently shot the James Ellroy detective thriller "The Black Dahlia", due in theaters next year.

She is also to play Lucrezia Borgia in an upcoming film on the brutally powerful 15th century Italian family, and a "gladiatrix" in the action film "Amazon", planned for 2007.

Johansson, Knightley Bare All for Magazine

With award season still under way, Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley are exchanging ballgowns for birthday suits.

Under the artful eye of photographer Annie Leibovitz, the starlets posed nude for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine's yearly Hollywood issue, to be released Wednesday.

Fashion superstar Tom Ford also appears on the cover photo, though he stuck with a more traditional suit one of black fabric.

Ford, the issue's guest art director, said he hadn't planned on becoming part of his own project, but he stepped in when "Wedding Crashers" star Rachel McAdams, 29, backed out.

"She did want to do it, and then when she was on the set I think she felt uncomfortable, and I didn't want to make anybody feel uncomfortable" Ford said Tuesday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Other Hollywood stars weren't difficult to persuade, Ford said.

"A lot of women actually, a couple of men, too, wanted to take their clothes off," he said. "These are such beautiful people, beautiful women, and who doesn't want to see a bit of them."

Angelina Jolie also got naked for the Hollywood issue, posing in a bathtub. Another shot depicts a fully clothed George Clooney as a director filming a large cast of women wearing skin-tone underwear.

For the cover photo, Knightley, 20, was photographed sitting sideways, with legs and arms carefully placed. The 21-year-old Johansson, draped over Ford's leg, is somewhat more exposed readers who open the fold-out cover will see her bare buttocks.

Knightley is currently nominated for a best actress Oscar for her performance in "Pride & Prejudice." Johansson co-starred this year in Woody Allen's "Match Point."

Hah, I'm fickle. Mcadams dropped off my radar with the overhype of Wedding Crashers and the awfulness of Red Eye.

Johansson Tops FHM's 'Sexiest Women' Poll

Scarlett Johansson tops a lovely list of the "100 Sexiest Women in the World," in a poll of readers by FHM magazine.

"One of the best things for a woman to hear is that she is sexy," the 21-year-old actress, star of "Match Point" and "Lost in Translation," said in a statement. "I'd like to thank FHM's readers for the huge compliment."

Angelina Jolie is No. 2 on the list, followed by Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Keira Knightley, Halle Berry, Jenny McCarthy, Maria Sharapova, Carmen Electra and Teri Hatcher.

Johansson ranked ninth on last year's list. Jolie was No. 1.

"It's remarkable how Scarlett Johansson has caught the attention of our readers," said Scott Gramling, the magazine's U.S. editor in chief, in a statement. "Her sultry voice and striking beauty certainly have a lot to do with that, but so does the confidence she exudes."

"She seems to be one of those women who would be equally at ease on the red carpet as she would just hanging out with the guys."

The magazine's May issue goes on sale April 4.

The 8th May 2006 issue of People Magazine, the annual Most Beautiful issue, names Scarlett Johansson to have the Best Cleavage. This is what they wrote about her:

"Ample; all-natural cleavage is back, and Johansson, 21, has the look of the moment. She says, 'I'm very proud of my body. I feel very sexy and comfortable in my own skin. It's always nice to be thought of as sexy. It's a great compliment.'"

Johansson Makes BRILLIANT Move
Jumping to the wrong side of the law, Scarlett Johansson will star for Barry Levinson in the heist pic Brilliant.
Source: FilmStew.com

An ever-busy Scarlett Johansson has landed herself yet another role. Daily Variety reports that Johansson will star for Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla Films in the heist pic Brilliant, with production tentatively slated for September. Barry Levinson, who recently shot the Robin Williams comedy Man of the Year, will direct from a script by Gillian Gorfil and Elizabeth Shorten from a story by Gorfil and Nicholas Lorentz.

In the film, Johansson will take a criminal turn as a jewel thief who teams up with a conman in order to pull of the biggest heist ever. Of course the pair is a bit of an odd couple and their relationship is filled with distress and other twists. The male lead has not yet been cast.

Johansson's manager-mother Melanie Johansson will be a producer with Gorfil, Avi Lerner and Randall Emmett. Boaz Davidson, George Furla, Danny Dimbort and John Thompson are the executive producers. Millennium is currently shopping the project in Cannes, with the producers looking for a Sept. 2007 release.

Repped by WMA, Johansson is currently in front of cameras on The Weinstein Co.'s adaptation of The Nanny Diaries. She recently wrapped Woody Allen's Scoop and has other recent credits that include The Island, Match Point and In Good Company, among others.

NEW YORK Reebok today said it has signed a multi-year contract with actress Scarlett Johansson to develop "Scarlett 'Hearts' Rbk," a "fashion-forward, athletic-inspired footwear and apparel signature collection."

The line is scheduled to debut in spring 2007 at high-end department stores and boutiques worldwide.

Marketing support will include television, print, Internet and outdoor. Mcgarrybowen in New York is Reebok's lead agency. Reebok last year spent $50 million in U.S. measured media, per TNS Media Intelligence.

The endorsement deal was brokered under the guidance of Daniel Rosenberg, president of InVenture Entertainment, a New York-based entertainment marketing and production company. The William Morris Agency represented Johansson on this partnership. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"Scarlett embodies the pulse points of our brand: individuality, authenticity and a life lived to the fullest in perpetual motion," Paul Harrington, president and CEO of Canton, Mass.-based Reebok, said in a statement about the 21-year-old actress. "These characteristics make her the perfect fit for our new women's footwear and apparel collection and also for our exciting new women's campaign."

Johansson's resume includes films such as Lost in Translation and Match Point.

Scarlett Johansson denies divalike demands

Scarlett Johansson has denied claims that divalike demands cost her the lead role in a big-budget revival of "The Sound of Music," a spokesman for the actress said.

Johansson, 21, had been targeted to play Maria von Trapp in Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, set to open in London's West End in November.

"Her people were not `pro' the idea. It became clear that it wasn't going to work because the demands were so ridiculous," Lloyd Webber was quoted as saying in The Times newspaper.

He said Johansson's representatives "couldn't understand why she would want to appear in the West End for $18,500 a week when she could be earning $10 million for a movie."

"It was annoying because she really wanted to do it," Lloyd Webber was quoted as saying.

Johansson's publicist, Marcel Pariseau, said Thursday it was a busy work schedule and not pay demands that sank the actress' chance to play the role made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1965 film version of the musical.

"It is true that there were some discussions regarding Scarlett and the production of `The Sound of Music.' But Mr. Webber's statement regarding the demands is extremely exaggerated," Pariseau said in a statement. "Her management team was simply asking for terms that an actress of her stature would ask for."

Lloyd Webber said he was also told that Johansson would need two assistants stationed backstage at all times, according to the report.

The role of Maria will now be played by an actress to be chosen from a new British Broadcasting Corp. reality TV show. The Aug. 15 finale of "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria" will award a six-month contract to one of 10 finalists.

Johannson stars in Woody Allen's new movie, "Scoop." Her screen credits also include "Lost in Translation" and "Girl With a Pearl Earring."

Johansson Happy With Her Curvy Figure

Scarlett Johansson struts her stuff in cleavage-baring dresses on the red carpet, but in real life, she'd rather remain a mystery.

"I can't stand those articles where people spill their life story," Johansson says in the October issue of InStyle magazine, on newsstands Friday. "After a while I feel like I know more about them than their best friend does and that's weird. It's better when you don't know everything."

The 21-year-old actress, whose screen credits include "Lost in Translation" and "Match Point," plays a former prostitute in "The Black Dahlia," opposite Hilary Swank and Josh Hartnett.

Johansson says: "Do I ever get nervous about this, right now, being the pinnacle of my career? Yeah, I do. At the end of (filming) every movie I think, `Wow this is the last one! Nice working with you.'"

She's more confident about her hourglass figure. "I'm curvy I'm never going to be 5'11' and 120 pounds. But I feel lucky to have what I've got."

And, given the chance, she'd like to trade lives with President Bush. "Whose life would I like to step into for the day? The president's. I could probably get some things done in the Oval Office."

Johansson finds something about "Mary"
Source: Hollywood Reporter

Scarlett Johansson will return to the past again in "Mary Queen of Scots."

The actress will take on the role of Queen Mary of Scotland in the film depicting the antagonistic relationship between Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I of England, who tried to undermine her rule.

The search for a director is underway. Shooting is expected to begin by the end of summer 2007. The budget of the independently financed film is expected to be in the $25 million-$30 million range. Melanie Johansson -- the actress' mother and manager -- will serve as a producer.

Johansson, in theaters with the 1940s film noir "The Black Dahlia," is filming another period piece, "The Other Boleyn Girl," for Columbia Pictures. She next appears in the magician saga "The Prestige," which Disney will release October 20.

Johansson Lands Sexiest Woman Alive Title

Scarlett Johansson has been handed another major honor after being named Esquire magazine's Sexiest Woman Alive. And the 21-year-old actress shows off what made editors give her the 2006 title on the cover and inside the November issue of the men's style publication. The Lost In Translation star wears a bra and a white Calvin Klein mini-dress on the cover, and then sends temperatures soaring inside with a series of scantily-clad poses as an "enigmatic trailer-park temptress." But Johansson isn't totally impressed by her new title, explaining, "What about my brain? What about my heart? What about my kidneys and my gallbladder?"

Scarlett Johansson: 'Not Promiscuous'

Scarlett Johansson says that while monogamy might go against instinct, she's happy in her relationship with boyfriend and recent "Black Dahlia" co-star Josh Hartnett.

"Josh is very sweet," the 21-year-old actress says in an interview in Allure magazine's November issue, on newsstands Oct. 24. "He's a good boy. A great person. I'm very lucky and I'm very happy. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not promiscuous.

"There does seem to be a mistaken belief out there that I am sexually available somehow which is not to say that I'm not open-minded about sex," she continues. "Yet I wouldn't say I'm a serial monogamist, either. I mean, I went through periods of time when I was, ah, single. But when I'm in a relationship, I'm in a relationship."

But Johansson, whose films include "Lost in Translation" and "Match Point," still acknowledges monogamy might not be natural.

"I do think on some basic level we are animals, and by instinct we kind of breed accordingly," she says. "But as much as I believe that, I work really hard when I'm in a relationship to make it work in a monogamous way."

Johansson also encourages testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

"I get tested for HIV twice a year. ... One has to be socially aware," she says. "It's part of being a decent human, to be tested for STDs. It's just disgusting behavior when people don't. It's so irresponsible."

Scarlett Johansson Sings
Actress rumored to try her hand at covering Tom Waits.

It seems that the allure of singing a song for the masses to hear continues to be strong within the Hollywood starlet set. The likes of Minnie Driver, Zoey Deschanel, and countless others have all dipped into the musical maelstrom over the years (and we're not even touching upon the male actors like Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Peter Gallagher, and Robert Downey, Jr.).

According to reports on both Entertainment Weekly and Fox News, the latest silver screen siren to venture into the recording studio is Scarlett Johansson. While at first glance the smoky voiced 22-year old may seem like a strange choice to be a singer, Johansson debuted her mellifluous vocal talents earlier this year on the charity album Unexpected Dreams: Songs From The Stars. Johansson's contribution to the record was a cover of the Gershwin classic "Summertime."

For her solo album debut, however, Johansson will dispense with the globally recognizable standards and go for a more eclectic route. Her full-length recorded endeavor is rumored to be titled Scarlett Sings Tom Waits and is scheduled to be released on the newly resurrected Atco Label (the venerable '70s and '80s imprint is getting a post-millennial facelift from Rhino Records). Granted covering the eclectic Waits is a stretch, but Johansson's raspy timbre may bring a fresh take to the enigmatic singer's catalog.

There is no tentative release date, though spring 2007 has been bandied around in the press.

Hasty crowns Johansson as woman of year
By NANCY RABINOWITZ, Associated Press Writer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Not quite the Oscar, but Scarlett Johansson still was all smiles Thursday about being crowned the Harvard Hasty Pudding woman of the year. And happy to participate in the rambunctious roasting that goes along with the honor.

She participated in a mock SAT exam, and endured a lampooning of her famous unclad Vanity Fair cover pose. But the blonde actress kept mum when asked to make an analogy between director Woody Allen, in whose films she has appeared, and fashion designer Issac Mizrahi, who groped her breast on the red carpet at the Golden Globes last year.

She was gleeful, though, in accepting the award.

"Thank you so much for this fabulous golden pot. It's been such a wonderful day. This is the closest I'll ever get to a Harvard degree for sure," Johansson said. "It's a real honor and I can't wait till later tonight when we party."

Before the roast, Johansson led a parade through Harvard Square, sitting in the back of a silver Bentley convertible, flanked by Harvard students in drag.

Johansson, 22, has appeared in films including "Lost in Translation," "The Girl with a Pearl Earring," "Match Point," and "The Black Dahlia."

Ben Stiller is to be crowned Harvard's Hasty Pudding Man of the Year on Feb. 23.

The awards are given to performers who have made a "lasting and impressive contribution to the world of entertainment" by Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the nation's oldest undergraduate drama troupe.

Last year's honorees were Halle Berry and Richard Gere.

What makes Scarlett shill?
The fresh-faced actress has recently been seen hawking everything from Disney World to Mt. Rainer coffee. Does she really need the money?
Source: Los Angeles Times

It was Scarlett Johansson's Disney World ad that got us thinking. We've become accustomed to celebrities hawking products--Heather Locklear has amassed a huge body of work in hair dye commercials, Paris Hilton famously pimped Carl's Jr. and William Shatner will sell anything that won't get him sued--but Scarlett?

She's not a has-been! She's not desperate for work or attention! She can't need the money! So why is the actress's pretty mug hanging in drugstores as the face of L'Oreal Paris? Why did she agree to don a Cinderella gown in a campaign for Disney theme parks? Why is she featured in ads for Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Gap and Mt. Rainer coffee? Why design clothes for Reebok? We thought real celebrities only agreed to PSAs or ads shown in foreign locales. Have times changed?

To find out we turned to Noreen Jenney, founder of Celebrity Endorsement Network. For the past 27 years Jenney has helped advertisers like Neutrogena, Frito-Lay and Anheuser-Busch convince celebs like Bianca Jagger, Michael Jordan, Dr. Ruth, and Candice Bergen to sell their products.

Latimes.com: Will all these ads hurt Scarlett Johansson's career? I thought it was taboo for stars to do a ton of endorsements.

NJ: Well, I think it goes in cycles. It used to be stigmatized and used to be that major film stars would only do overseas ads, but with the growth of the Internet there is no such thing anymore as only overseas. Every ad becomes worldwide the minute it hits the Internet. And obviously as bigger stars do commercials more of them will do it. There are still some holdouts that won't do on camera ads, but most of them will do unidentified voiceovers. Companies will pay a fortune for that.

Latimes.com: Is it really worth it for an advertiser to get only a celebrity's voice?

NJ: It is because they generally pick a celebrity with a recognizable voice so they figure people will know who it is. They also use it for internal excitement with the sales staff. They'll go to corporate meeting and say we have so-and-so doing the advertising and the sales staff gets excited and sells twice the volume. You'd be shocked and amazed at what these major advertisers pay for unidentified voice-overs.

Latimes.com: Do stars that are making movies really need this money? How much are we talking about?

NJ: It's not what you'll make on a movie. A $1-million to $2-million commercial name is usually a $15 million movie name, but the advertising money is definitely in the seven figures and sometimes multiples of that. Sometimes an advertiser will do two years for a million, so they only pay half a million each year. There are all different kinds of ways to structure the deals.

Latimes.com: How have celebrity ads changed since you started doing this work?

NJ: The money has gotten much bigger, but that is true in every field. These days people will do endorsements who never would have considered it in the past. Part of that is because the production quality is so high. So maybe a celebrity does a print campaign because Annie Liebovitz is shooting it. Everyone wants to be shot by her so that's an incentive, or maybe a star wants to work with a particular film director and he's directing the commercial.

Latimes.com: Can doing a bunch of advertising hurt your reputation?

NJ: You can be overexposed, and you can do too much, and that starts diluting your value. The public doesn't remember what they saw you doing because you've done so much. The advertiser can get hurt that way more than the celebrity. Unless you are doing something where the product has a huge problem. Sometimes this will happen with infomercials--if you do a vitamin or a diet product and there are lawsuits, that can be a negative--but generally with the upscale endorsements and product lines there is very little negative about that. The celebrities who won't do it say it is selling out, but even those that won't do the on camera are doing the voice over work. You can get high six figures, sometimes for no more than a couple of days in the studio. It's very easy work. There are very few celebrities who won't do voice work.

Latimes.com: So why do you think that Scarlett Johannson is doing so much advertising?

NJ: There is a lot of insecurity in actors and actresses, so there is a strike while the iron is hot theory. Also I think it is very difficult to turn down the kind of money that these companies are offering with the minimal amount of work involved. They do earn a lot on a film, but how long till the next film? Not too many celebrities are lined up with movies for the next 10 years and it's very difficult to walk away from $1 million for a year of exposure, and realistically just a day or two of your time. It is tough to pass on that.

Timberlake Director Re-Teams With Johansson For Heist Flick 'Brilliance'

Scarlett Johansson really made an impression on music video director Samuel Bayer during the making of Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around...Comes Around" mini-movie — so much so that the two will team up again later this year.

"Scarlett is one of the sexiest actresses around," Bayer told MTV News. "And she can just become her characters. Look at what she did during the Corvette scene, which a lot of people won't catch. She was shooting that on a green screen, and right before we were rolling, she was laughing. We start, and she's crying. It was just unbelievable. It's stuff like that which makes you know someone's a star."

So it was a no-brainer for Bayer that when Johansson mentioned her next project was hunting for a director, and she'd like to work with him again, to come aboard. "It's called 'Brilliance' and it's about diamond thieves, and we start shooting this winter," Bayer said. "So many things came together in all the right ways. It really was a case of 'what goes around, comes around.' In a good way."

Can Scarlett Johansson improve Waits' songs?
Source: Los Angeles Times

The debut album from Scarlett Johansson, "Anywhere I Lay My Head," has been given an official track list, which was unveiled at a press event in New York last night. As noted earlier, the album sees the actress-turned-singer tackling 10 Tom Waits songs (and one original, "Song for Jo"), and now has a guest spot from David Bowie, according to Billboard.com, which covered the event.

For those wondering, Johansson has released music before. A while back, we wrote about her turn on the 2006 benefit CD "Unexpected Dreams -- Songs from the Stars," in which she tackled "Summertime."

To try to get a sense of how Waits might sound once given the Scarlett-treatment, here's a clip from "Summertime," as well as a clip of one of the Waits songs she covers, "Green Grass." She gives the George Gershwin-composed "Summertime" a rather graceful approach, and colors her vocals with just a hint of femme fatale slyness.

But will such grace destroy the Waits songs?

Is their very appeal dependent upon Waits' crazy-guy-in-the-woods vocals, much like the Pogues lose their zest without Shane MacGowan's drunk-guy-in-the-pub approach? Since many of the songs Johansson covers are rather sparse in their original form, there is plenty room for interpretation, and I'm actually betting on the actress to hold her own with the Waits catalog.

Johansson embarrassed by hoopla over Obama e-mails

Scarlett Johansson can laugh about it now, but the actress says she was embarrassed by the media coverage of her so-called "e-mail relationship" with Barack Obama.

"It seemed to me to be like a product of extreme sexism, and I kept thinking to myself, 'God, if this was just, like, Kal Penn or George Clooney or any of the other (Obama) surrogates or supporters ... there wouldn't be (any) question about it. Nobody would even talk about it," she said.

Johansson, a vocal supporter of Obama, told the Web site Politico.com in June that she and the Democratic presidential hopeful had been trading e-mails. Obama later told reporters that Johansson doesn't have his personal e-mail address, and that his assistant forwarded one message from Johansson to which he replied.

"I was merely trying to express my delight at Obama's commitment to his campaign in every aspect and his interest and his support (in) his surrogates and his staff and his fellows, and how wonderful and refreshing that is. And it was manipulated into such an unfortunate media frenzy of kind of a nonstory," the 23-year-old actress said Tuesday in an interview from Los Angeles, where she was promoting her new Woody Allen film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."

The romantic comedy set against the bohemian backdrop of Barcelona, Spain, has its share of buzz over Johansson's much-hyped kiss with Penelope Cruz.

"It's just silly because ... the way people are talking about it you'd think it was ... a Bertolucci movie or something," Johansson said, laughing. "People are saying, `It's Woody Allen's steamiest movie.' I'm thinking, 'Woody Allen's steamiest WHAT?'"

It was the actress' third time working with Allen, who directed her in "Match Point" and "Scoop." She and actor-beau Ryan Reynolds had been snapped by paparazzi on the set of the movie last summer; she confirmed the couple's engagement in early May.

Have they set a date?

"We're just enjoying our time," she said. "We're just recently — very recently — engaged. So, you know, we're just taking it easy. And no big plan yet. But it's a good time and we're just ... enjoying our time to be young and engaged.

"I mean, I'm 23. There's no reason to rush into it. Everything feels very natural and relaxed."

Scarlett Johansson, Ryan Reynolds marry in Canada

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds did a little rushing into it after all. The couple married this weekend, according to publicist Meredith O'Sullivan. She did not provide details.

Us Weekly reported on its Web site Sunday that the small wedding took place at a resort outside Vancouver, British Columbia. Guests included Scarlett's mother, Melanie Sloan, and her brother, Adrian Johansson, the magazine said.

The couple announced their engagement in May.

"We're just enjoying our time," the actress said last month. "We're just recently very recently engaged. So, you know, we're just taking it easy. And no big plan yet. But it's a good time and we're just ... enjoying our time to be young and engaged.

"I mean, I'm 23. There's no reason to rush into it. Everything feels very natural and relaxed."

Johansson most recently starred in the Woody Allen film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." Reynolds starred on the TV show "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place" and the romantic comedy "Definitely, Maybe."

Scarlett Johansson puts snotty tissue on eBay

NEW YORK - How snotty: Scarlett Johansson blew her nose on a tissue, and now the tissue is being sold on eBay .

Johansson appeared on NBC's "Tonight" show Wednesday to promote her new movie, " The Spirit ." The actress said she'd caught a cold from co-star Samuel L. Jackson , and felt her illness had value because it had been passed down from one celebrity to another.

Host Jay Leno then handed her a tissue, and Johansson announced she would sell it on eBay to raise money for the hunger relief charity USA Harvest. She blew twice, depositing some lipstick and mucus.

As of Thursday morning, the dirty tissue had snagged more than 60 bids, with the highest bidder putting up $2,050. The online auction ends Monday.

She hasn't really done anything in a while so I guess it makes sense to rehash the classics, which in retrospect must have saturated the market in anticipation of the last few years when she's been sleeping under a rock. Does she even look like that anymore? No one knows.

Inception has 11.  The Master has 29.  If that gives some indication of where she is on the Xixax scale of conversation.

Scarlett Johansson To Play A Man-Eating Alien Seductress In 'Under The Skin'
Source: MTV

Scarlett Johansson has always been just a little bit sexier than humanly possible, and at long last it's clear why: She's an alien! OK, not really, but she's set to play one in "Under the Skin," a new sci-fi drama from "Sexy Beast" writer-director Jonathan Glazer, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

And ScarJo isn't just playing any alien. According to FilmNation, the company behind the project: "Johansson plays an alien on earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey -- her voracious sexuality." Hmmm ... if that didn't sound so much like the plot of a porn movie, it might remind me of the 1995 flick "Species." That puppy starred Natasha Henstridge as a sexy alien intent on getting knocked up -- so she uses her, um, voracious sexuality to seduce men, bang them and then kill them afterward, praying mantis-style.

To be fair, however, alien-baby-making is not the plot of "Under the Skin." The synopsis goes on to say that Johansson's character is "deadly efficient, but over time becomes drawn to and changed by the complexity of life on earth. With this new found humanity and weakening alien resolve, she finds herself on a collision course with her own kind. Taking her point of view throughout, the film presents a unique look at our world through alien eyes."

OK, that sounds a lot better. Now, the film's a cross between "Species" and "E.T." -- something I can totally get behind.

Aside from 2012's "The Avengers," this marks the first role Johansson has lined up since her butt-kicking turn as slinky superhero Black Widow in summer's "Iron Man," though she is rumored to be in the running to play Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" remake, as well as one of four actresses writer-director Cameron Crowe is considering for the role of Matt Damon's wife in the based-on-real-life dramedy "We Bought a Zoo."

Scarlett's involvement in "Under the Skin" isn't likely to affect her chances with those other roles. "Skin" is slated for a late spring 2011 shoot, after Johansson wraps "Avengers" this winter. "Zoo" is shooting this fall, and "Gatsby" probably won't go before the lens until next summer at the earliest. In other words, Johansson could soon be invading the big screen in a variety of flicks as both the perfect woman and the perfect alien. Sounds out of this world.

And my heterosexual man crush on ScarJo is back.  She just did a sweet/hilarious promo for SNL with Sudeikis during 30 Rock.  It's like it's 2003 all over again.  :yabbse-swoon:  :)

The TMZ website meanwhile reported that actress Mila Kunis had been hacked, and that pictures of Timberlake - with whom she starred in Friends with Benefits - had been leaked.

Two of the pictures show Timberlake, one shirtless in bed, another with a pair of pink panties on his head; another shows Kunis in a bathtub, and a fourth is explicit in nature, of an unidentified male, TMZ reported.

TMZ says the FBI has been involved in alleged nude celebrity photo hackings in the past year -- involving actors Vanessa Hudgens, Jessica Alba and more.

The FBI wouldn't give a single fuck if this were one of the several thousands of girls getting hacked and having their racy pictures stolen.

Scarlett Johansson To Make Directorial Debut With Adaptation Of Truman Capote's 'Summer Crossing'
Source: Playlist

Apparently too sexy for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," and still waiting for Woody Allen to write her "Citizen Kane" it looks like the undeniably attractive Scarlett Johansson is taking matters into her own hands in an effort to be taken seriously. But not just an actress. As you might remember, her short film effort "These Vagabond Shoes" was an extra on the "New York, I Love You" DVD and now she's ready to throw her hat in the ring as feature filmmaker, as she's lining up a project that is sure to get people talking.

Oscar winning "The Deer Hunter" producer Barry Spikings, Peter D. Graves and the Truman Capote Literary Trust are all back adaptation of "Summer Crossing" with Johansson at the helm. The novel was technically Capote's first, first drafted in 1943, tinkered with for nearly a decade more and then eventually put aside, only to published posthumously in 2005. Taking place of the course of a hot summer in 1945 New York City, the story centers on the 17 year old Grady, from a well-to-do family living on Fifth Avenue, who enters a torrid affair with parking attendant, winds up marrying him and becomes pregnant. It's not considered Capote's finest work, but its nonetheless a premise rich with potential.

Playwright Tristin Skyler -- who is also adapting "The Bell Jar" for Julia Stiles -- is writing the script, so this one isn't quite ready to go just yet. But Johansson will have a plethora of experience to draw on having worked on films from directors such as the aforementioned Allen, The Coen Brothers, Brian DePalma, Robert Redford, Christopher Nolan, Cameron Crowe and currently, Jonathan Glazer on the sci-fi flick of sorts "Under The Skin." We're always excited to see someone trying their hand at something new, and stepping out of their comfort zone so we'll be eager to this one come together. No word yet on planned production start date. [Variety]

Cannes: Scarlett Johannson Making Directing Debut On Truman Capote's 'Summer Crossing'
BY MIKE FLEMING JR | Deadline

BREAKING: Actress Scarlett Johansson will make her helming debut on Summer Crossing, an adaptation of Truman Capote's first novel. Aldamisa will sell international rights here at Cannes, and CAA will make the domestic distribution deal. The plot: a 17-year-old debutant opts out of her parents' Parisian travels to foster a romance with a Jewish valet parking attendant in the middle of a 1945 summer NYC heat wave. The novel had never been published by Capote, who threw it in the trash. It fell into the hands of the apartment janitor, who hung on to it. The manuscript resurfaced at a 2004 auction, where it fell back into the right hands and was published with the blessing of Capote's former editor. How exactly the acquired material was brought back to light will remain a mystery, because Capote was dead. His work lives on as Johansson sparked to his early prose.

"Several years ago I began working alongside the Capote estate and writer Tristine Skylar to adapt 'Summer Crossing', an inspired early work of Truman's which has long captured my heart," Johansson said. "Being able to bring this story to the screen as my full length directorial debut is a life dream and deep privilege."

Oleg Boyko will co-finance the film along with Aldamisa. Boyko, also a producer on Frank Miller's Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For 3D, and Aldamisa Co-Chairman Sergei Bespalov, will serve as producers on the film, along with Barry Spikings. Peter D. Graves will be exec producer and shooting will begin next year.

i've read capote's first novel and it's called 'other voices, other rooms' wtf deadline

idk why actors are so into adaptations right now, in a two-person way, but ok

edit -- i wikipedia checked and wikipedia oddly names summer crossing as capote's first novel while also mentioning "After taking an evening walk in Monroeville, Alabama and being inspired to write his first published novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms, he set aside the manuscript . On August 30, 1949, while vacationing in North Africa, Capote informed his publisher that he was approximately two-thirds through his first draft of Summer Crossing. Capote optimistically spoke of finalizing the manuscript by the end of the year"
