I've had this laserdisc for about 6 years, but never had a laserdisc player. It appears that this isn't anything more than a DVD-format release of the laser disc with a couple of additional bonus live cuts.

Overall video quality is pretty poor. It's as if they used VHS tapes as the master for the source material. The music videos themselves are a bit better, but the interviews and extras are pretty rough.

Still, not a bad buy for $12. 2 and a half stars. 4 stars if you're a spud.

You and most everyone else.

Devo was a band that realy pioneered the art form of music video. This DVD includes several of their short films that had a loosely-knit story line. Later, they'd come to be known as music videos, but in Devo's day beore there was such a thing as a promo video clip, Devo was making films and accompanying them with their own music.

If you watch the DVD, you'll see that the band wasn't really initially a band at all. They were more of a performance art group that used the mediums of film (first) and music (second). Then, the record companies got wind of them and turned them into a "band". All the while, Devo continued doing their performance art - much of which can be found on this DVD.

Really avant garde freaky stuff. Way ahead of its time (this was early to mid 70's). Most of the really great stuff has never been seen widely, because it's just too way out to be considered even remotely commercial.

The only thing that I find depressing about this whole thing is that it reminds me that there will never be more of the same. The guys are all in their 50's now, and De-Evolution is over. It's a post-post-modern world, as they'd quickly tell you.
