Title: Final Questions for PTA Q & A
Post by: depooter on November 09, 2003, 07:18:07 PM
Here they are. Remember this was supposed to be a brief email Q & A. I tried to sneak a few extras in there. No crying if you're question wasn't picked :)

1. Let's talk about Couch. Was it shot on 16mm?  Furthermore, was it shot on a Bolex?  Tell me about the location? Lots of people have been asking.

2. The "Solar Flares" or "Lens Flares" in PDL appear at remarkably timed moments throughout the film. Were all these intentional down to the specific moment? Please explain.

3. Finish these sentences...:

You might be surprised to learn that I can...

One thing I can't live without is... (refrain from saying movies, music, television, etc.)

I don't get it. They can put a man on the moon, but they can't...

I'm not obsessive-compusive, but I always have to...

Besides "A warm gun," Happiness is...

My favorite meal is...

4. What's going on with the largo/jon brion collaborations? i see largo the site still has a spot reserved for pta movies coming soon...???

5. Name a recent film that you thought was amazing, and why do you consider it that way.

6. Andy Serkis has expressed a strong interest in working with you. What did you think of his work on the character Gollum in Lord of the Rings, and what are your feelings about the effect that computer generated special effects are having on cinema?

7. How many drafts do you usually write for each screenplay?

8. Lot of people stand by the theory that Lena was an alien from outer space based on a few things you said and all the lunar footage shown on TV. Thoughts?

9. You've mentioned that you've been working on an adventure type film for awhile. Can you give us a bit more info? Any timelines on when you might finish up and begin filming?

10. Tell me about your relationship with Quentin. How did you meet? Do you spend much time together. Talk about your trip to the Kill Bill set and your thoughts on the film?

11. Have you seen the new DVD collection of short films and music videos by Spike Jonze,Chris Cunningham and Michel Gondry. Any chance in hell you'd collect your stuff?

11. How about some new DVD Picks.

You forgot to ask him POINT BLANK what his next project is going to be.  I think that's more important than anything.  What if his next is not an adventure film?  He said a while back he wanted to do something along the lines of Baraka (in that radio interview).  He also said he wanted to try to get rid of dialogue more and more, and/or perhaps someday do a musical.

Awesome, I hope we can finally get a straight answer about this Lena/alien business (though, why do I suspect that Paul will be pretty vague about this, if he even answers it).

well, I guess I am just bitter cause I actually put thought into all the questions I asked...

...and even more bitter cause I think no matter how you look at things, the questions got influenced by sum prick.  It's just human nature so I am not blaming anyone...but that thread should have only been questions.  The opinions shoulda been left here...

I liked mac's questions.

again, just my opinion.

I thought it was a great selection, but just a question Gregg, isn't this kind of q&a supossed to be different from the ones that are always done by the newsprint or any media? I mean, from the interviews PTA gave for PDL the 'why Sandler' was asked every single time, there's really no creativity by most of these journalist, I know am not creative but this is their job and most of them suck at it (note that I'm not saying all newsmedia suck at make interviews), as a matter of fact the ones you've made so far are the best (IMO).

A playboy int. would be nice, those are always great.

Once Martin Scorsese was asked, "Who's the next Martin Scorsese?" and he said, "Wes Anderson." Kinda surprised me, for the simple connections between PTA's style and Scorsese's, and considering Scorsese doesn't really do dark comedies. But anyhow...

Another good question would be to ask PTA about his other contemporaries, and how he feel they're changing cinema.

no offense, but its in my humble opinion that this question is not only a waste of time, but also something that we really shouldnt know. PT is famous for maintaining mystery in his movies, so even if the alien theory is true i dont expect him to ever let us know. but even more than that, what do you guys think about that  kubrick qoute, something about how if we knew exactly what was going through mona lisa's head, no one could apreciate her? we all have our theories of what things represent in PT's movies, but dont you think that if he told us exactly what they meant, it might be a little dissapointing?

Well, considering that's about a tenth of his body of work, and it's 100% of Wes Anderson's, it's a little weird. But a decent choice nonetheless. I'll see if I can't find the article.

Edit: Found it: http://www.wesanderson.org/articles/2002/goodfellas.html

Yeah, that question is a waste of a question. More on his next project would be nice, although I expect his answer to be vague, cryptic or both. Asking him about the state of movies, is a good question, though the question about Andy Serkis would kind of put him on the spot, where he'd be obliged to say something complimentary back to Serkis.

I don't think Scorsese was thinking in terms of style. I think he was just talking in terms of being a damned good filmmaker. You'll notice in his top ten of the 1990s, he names Bottle Rocket. I think he just really likes Wes Anderson as a filmmaker.

And good for him.
